Matte finishes look incredible, but they're not just a glossy paint job without the shine. A few things to know before you buy one:
Matte paint scratches the same as gloss, but it can't be polished out — polishing raises the sheen and leaves an obvious shiny patch. Rubbing on things like bird droppings or sap too long can do the same thing. Skip automated car washes; matte finishes need hand washing with products made specifically for matte paint (regular wax and gloss clearcoat products will ruin the finish).
It's a stunning look, but it comes with real upkeep considerations. Do your research before you commit. 🔧

Why isn't following repair procedures more widely adopted in the industry? Ken breaks it down to one main factor: time.
It takes real time to review these procedures correctly, and it happens twice. Once when the repair plan is written, and again when the technician actually performs the work and has to verify they're using the right procedure for that specific vehicle.
Case in point: this RDX. Its ADAS system uses five radars and a camera, which means a full visibility test with the bumper on and off to see how the radar interacts with the new paint and bumper. An older vehicle without that system doesn't need that step. It's a completely different process, and knowing the difference is the whole job.
This is the kind of detail that gets skipped when shops are moving fast. We don't skip it.
